TATTOO AFTERCARE INSTRUCTION

TEGADERM BANDAGING HEALING INSTRUCTIONS:

*Please See TRADITIONAL HEALING INSTRUCTIONS below if no bandage was applied.

1. Leave your Tegaderm on for 3-5 days, It is water-resistant, so you can shower with it on, but try to keep it out of the water as much as possible and keep soaps/body products away from it.

*PLEASE NOTE It is normal for the Tegaderm to fill with plasma tinted black/brown by the ink. Be sure to keep an eye on your Tegaderm to make sure nothing gets trapped beneath it.

If the fluid starts to leak out of the bandage or a foreign substance does get trapped under it, carefully remove the bandage, wash your tattoo, and maintain your regular aftercare.

2. (AFTER 3-5 DAYS) Carefully remove the Tegaderm in the shower. Be sure to slowly roll or pull it away from your skin; DO NOT rip it off like a Band-Aid.

3. (After your Tegaderm bandage is removed) carefully clean the tattoo with a mild non-scented soap like Dr. Bronner’s baby castile soap (available for purchase). Then apply a light layer of Tattoo Aftercare, like AFTER INKED (available for purchase).

*Once the Tegaderm is removed, it should begin to peel within the next couple days.  Do not pick or scratch.

5. Wash your tattoo 1-2x a day with a mild non-scented soap like Dr. Bronner’s baby castile soap and keep it moisturized with a light layer of Tattoo Aftercare, like AFTER INKED until it is fully healed. (6-8 weeks)

*WHAT TO EXPECT DURING HEALING*
You can expect your new tattoo to be sensitive, red and/or swollen. Most people find that this goes away after a day or so, some a little longer.

DO NOT SCRATCH, ITCH OR PICK AT YOUR TATTOO IN ANYWAY!
Your tattoo may get itchy, this is part of the healing process. Again DO NOT SCRATCH, ITCH OR PICK AT YOUR TATTOO IN ANYWAY!

*WHAT TO AVOID*
Do not soak your tattoo for at least two weeks after it’s been done, so no bathing or swimming  (sauna is also not recommended). Showering is totally fine, Keep in mind it may be sensitive to both the showers water pressure and the heat so be careful and do not keep it wet for too long.

Avoid sun exposure (including tanning beds) for at least two weeks! UV Rays damage the skin, irritate the wound and fade tattoo color.

*HELPFUL TIPS*
Do exactly as your Tattoo Artist tells you. He/She is a professional and knows which method works best for their work, and for their clients. Your best friend, your mom, or anyone else will not know better than your Tattoo Artist, even if  they have lots of tattoos.

If you get a rash, or any kind of unusual symptoms on or around the tattoo you should CONTACT YOUR TATTOO ARTIST IMMEDIATELY.  (603)320-9616

Your tattoo will take 4 to 6 weeks to completely heal. Heal times are dependent on your skin and how your body heals as well as size, placement and style of the tattoo.

TRADITIONAL HEALING INSTRUCTIONS:

1. STARTING WITH CLEAN HANDS GENTLY WASH WITH MILD OR NON SCENTED SOAP & WATER Dr. Bronner’s baby castile soap (available for purchase). Keep the tattoo clean through the healing process. It is an open wound, do not forget that! Pat dry with paper towel. Do this once or twice a day unless the tattoo gets dirty.

2. APPLY A SMALL AMOUNT OF TATTOO AFTERCARE like AFTER INKED (available for purchase) 5-7 TIMES A DAY. *More is not better, do not over do the ointment! The tattoo must be allowed to breathe if it’s to heal properly. A thin layer is enough.

*WHAT TO EXPECT DURING HEALING*
You can expect your new tattoo to be sensitive, red and/or swollen. Most people find that this goes away after a day or so, some a little longer.
Your tattoo may weep a clear or ink colored fluid in the first couple of days, this is normal to the healing process.
After a couple days to a week, a thin layer of skin will start to peel or flake away from the tattoo, this is a normal part of the healing process.

Showering is totally fine, in fact washing your tattoo under the shower is probably the easiest way to do it. Keep in mind it may be sensitive to both the showers water pressure and the heat so be careful and do not keep it wet for too long.

Avoid sun exposure (including tanning beds) for at least two weeks! UV Rays damage the skin, irritate the wound and fade tattoo color.
